Home mover advice
Whether this is your first time moving, or whether you are experienced at moving house, the process can be very stressful.
If you have a property to sell, coordinating your sale and purchase takes time. For this reason you need to ensure that you have an experienced estate agent and solicitor onboard to help you.
You will also have important financial decisions to make. If you require a mortgage in order to move, this may feel daunting too. This is why we recommend using an experienced mortgage broker, such as ChoiceMortgages UK Ltd, who can discuss your requirements and make the best recommendation based on your needs.

Porting a mortgage vs. a new mortgage
Porting your mortgage means transferring your current mortgage to a new property. You can keep the same interest rate and other terms of your existing mortgage.
This is an option to consider as:
- You might be able to avoid an early repayment charge.
- You can keep your current product, which is good news if the rate is low.
- You can still consider additional borrowing with the same lender.
Please note a new application is always required, even when porting your mortgage. The current lender requirements need to be met and the application is assessed accordingly.
Arranging a new mortgage is when you redeem your current mortgage and approach a new lender.
This is an option to consider as:
- You may benefit from another lender’s policy criteria.
- You can review all products in the market and may find something cheaper.
- You can choose a different type of mortgage product.
